This website is undergoing a major upgrade between march and April 2026 , massively upgrading and protecting the hardware, expanding the content with user experience in mind and replacing the aged, simplistic look of the previous version of the site.
Hardware Upgrade
This website is, and always will be self hosted. That means that one of the volunteers of our group will forever have a computer running in their house, serving this website. The webmaster Max who is also a member of the 490th bg memorial group, and a computer sciences student runs this website, in the interest of preserving files physically for time to come at his home 3 miles away from the home of the 490th, the hardware needs to be turned off and serviced time to time and that’s what’s happening right now.
FASTER LOADING
The new site will be more snappy, user friendly and lighter on the eyes. Settings have been tweaked and site future proofed.
NEW FORUM
The new 490th and 8th Air Force forum will be released allowing people to connect and share their stories. Coming April 1st 2026.
COMPLETE REDESIGN
Our biggest redesign since COVID, incorporating AI.
MAILING LIST
The mailing list opens spring 2026, check the homepage for details. We expect to launch this April 1st.
REDUNDANCY
All servers and switches have been placed onto battery backup finally making the site fully operational in the event of a power cut.
